Condemnation of Yemeni Funeral Bombing

Dated: October 11, 2016

World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) utterly condemns the violent horrific air strike on 8 October, on a funeral gathering in Yemen's capital Sanaa, killing over 150 people and injuring over 500.  WABIL offers its condolences to the families of the victims and the Yemeni people. Yemen has blamed the Saudi air strikes.

The funeral was of the father of a Houthi minister, and was attended by many civilians as well as security personnel. To target the burial of a fellow human and kill those in mourning and overseeing the funerary rites is a most heinous, terrorist, barbaric act. The Saudi regime, supported by the arms trade from Britain and the US, is nothing but a rogue terrorist state, a blot on the face of humanity that is using its wealth and resources to terrorise its neighbours.

Perhaps Saudi Arabia is forgetting the traditions of the Prophet (saw) that ‘The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe’ (Bukhari vol. 10) and “Allah will deprive from the fragrance of Paradise one who hurts his neighbour. His abode shall be Hell and what a terrible abode it is’ (Wasail ul-Shiah vol.8). The terror and oppression that is being spread throughout the Muslim world is nothing but a ploy to divide and fracture us. It is incumbent upon us to condemn acts of terror, to speak up against them and to fight for justice for the oppressed.

There is no doubt that Wahabism, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, have all been created by the enemies of humanity: elements (both Muslim and non-Muslim) who seek to turn the Middle East into a so-called sectarian blood bath in order to destabilise the region for their own economic gain, are funding, arming and training these inhumane criminals, unleashing terror on people. Further, Saudi Arabia and its puppets Al-Qaeda, ISIS, al-Nusra, are targeting and killing Shia Muslims. We call upon the international human rights community to denounce both these terrorists and their funders and to bring all of them to account, whether states or individuals.

As the sad list of orphans and widows is increasing daily in Yemen, WABIL urges the scholars, humanitarian organisations, and the rich strata of our communities, to come forward and support these unfortunate victims of terror.
