Martyrdom of the Prophet (saw) and Imam Hasan ibn Ali (as)

Dated: November 29, 2016

On the martyrdom anniversaries of both the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad ibn Abdullah (pbuh) and the second Infallible Imam, Hasan ibn Ali (pbuh), World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) offers heartfelt condolences to the Imam of our time (pbuh) and all believers.

The Prophet, Rahmatulil alameen (mercy to the universe), al-Amin (the trustworthy), al-Sadiq (the most truthful), al-Habib (the beloved), Yasin (a Quranic title for him, the heart of the Quran), was born in  570 CE, on 17 Rabiul Awwal in the year of the elephant, in Makkah, and was martyred on 632 CE, 28 Safar 11 AH, in Madinah. He was poisoned treacherously. The tragedy of his poisoning was further compounded by the fact that three days before his demise, he asked for  pen and paper to write instructions so that the community would not go astray. However some of those present by his side refused this Prophetic request, claiming that the Quran was sufficient. This was the same mindset that today also disregards the Sunnah and misinterprets the Quran.

The Prophet breathed his last in the lap of his successor and brother Ali ibn Abi Talib, who then prepared his body for the funeral. It is tragic that the Mercy to Mankind only had a few loyal followers attending his funeral with his family, as most were busy scheming about how to cease power.

Imam Hasan the Prophet’s grandson and son of his daughter Fatima and Ali (pbut) was born in 3 AH on 15 Ramadhan, 624 CE, in Madinah. He was the second divinely appointed successor to the Prophet. He was a most noble generous soul and one who had to suffer great treachery at the scheming hands of Muawiya who reneged on his agreement that Imam entered with him in order to secure peace for his Ummah. This scheming eventually led to his disloyal wife Judha bint al-Ashath poisoning him.

History narrates that the poisoning of Imam Hasan was so vicious that it took his life within hours. Yet even more oppression was to follow: as the next appointed imam, Imam Husain (pbuh) tried to take his brother’s funeral to be buried beside the Prophet, Aishah the wife of the Prophet (pbuh) appeared on a mule with other supporters and prevented the burial. The martyred Imam’s body was showered with arrows! Imam Husain (pbuh) immediately redirected his brother’s funeral to Jannatul Baqee. His grave lies there as a heap of dust, the sacred shrine constructed over his grave having been demolished by the criminal uncivil ungodly Wahabi Saudi regime in 1925.

Today we grieve for these two tremendously painful martyrdoms. We pray that we follow the life examples of both the Prophet and his grandson Hasan (pbut), and always adhere to their teachings and guidance.
