Condemnation of Imam Hussain Masjid Attack

Dated: May 11, 2018

World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL) strongly condemns the barbaric and horrendous act of terrorism on the Imam Hussain Masjid on in Durban, South Africa by three armed terrorists. The nature of this criminal attack is so graphic and violent that it resulted in three people having their throats being slit and the mosque set on fire. One victim has lost his life. The three suspects are still at large having fled the scene. WABIL offers its condolences to the family of the deceased. This despicable act must be condemned by the international community. It is incomprehensible why peaceful people engaged in worship in a house of God would be attacked so viciously. What is even worse is the lack of media reporting and condemnation. Had this been an attack on a Jewish or Christian centre we might have seen more condemnation but attacks on mosques especially of the Shia community are met with silence. WABIL stands with the victims, urges the South African authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice, and calls on people from all religious communities to condemn this crime against humanity.
