Question ID 4750 Sunday 30th of June 2019

Question:

Salam alakium How is that a kafir is to be considered najis even though Imam Ali (as) said: A person is either your brother in faith, or your equal in humanity. It does not make any sense to say that a person who has never ever in his or her life been exposed to islam or expressed any hate toward Allah nor the prophets and the Imams (as) to be considered a kafir. How can one say that such person is najis even though they might be better in character than a person who is a Muslim? Are they seriously to be compared to alcohol and dogs? What is this logic? I have read this verse for the justification of a kafir being najis: O you who believe the idolaters are unclean, so they shall not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year And if you fear poverty then God will enrich you out of His grace if He pleases Surely God is Knowing, Wise. (9:28) From my point of view it does not make any justification for them to be considered najis even though I am not a scholar. Where does it say they are physical najis? How did Sayyed Sistani (may Allah prolong his life) come to this conclusion? I find it really really hard to believe. I have read this article for clarification but it does not still convince me: https://www.islamquest.net/en/archive/question/fa3260 I know that the sunnis does not consider kafirs physical najis. I also read that Ayatollah Yusuf Saanei, the late Sayyed Fadlullah and Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati had different view regarding kafir people. Is it possible to follow another marja on this particular issue? Wa salam alakium

Answer:

1. Those who do not know about Islam will not be punished in the Day of Judgement but will be tested there and judged according to their response.
2. Sunni scholars have different opinions on this matter and other matters (See Bidayat Al-Mujtahid by Ibn Roshd), but their opinions do not come from authentic Hadeeths nor from Ahlul Bayt(AS). If you are follower of Ahlul Bayt (AS), you are supposed to follow them, not others.
3. We have authentic evidence from the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) that the Mushrik is Najis. We must abide to this evidence whether you like it or not. Allah (SWT) knows much more that us and must surrender to His orders.
4. You must follow the verdict of the most learned scholar who is been accepted by the eminent scholars in the Hawza as the most learned.

Question ID 4366 Tuesday 21st of August 2018

Question:

Salam alakium I am a follower of Sayyed Sistani (may Allah prolong his life). I have read that a kafir is najis according to Sayyed Sistani. I have a big problem with this, as my hands are constantly wet. I want to go to visit many asian countries in the future but I am afraid to make everything najis because I can not wash my hands every time I am at a meeting or work with someone. What do I do? Do I regard the people tahir as long as I don´t know their faith? Statistically it will be hard to find anyone who are from ahlul kitab there. What if I want to eat at their resturants. Can I just go there and eat without asking if they touched it with their wet hands?? Please helm me out.

Answer:

Wa Alaykum Assalam wr wb
If you are sure that your hands became Najis, you don’t need to wash them immediately, but only before Wuzu or Namaz.
If you are sure that the food is Najis, you will not be allowed to eat it.
