Question ID 960 - 2013-12-19 13:38:30

Question:

Assalaam Alailkum I have been shortlisted for a job which may involve paying for alcohol using the company credit card. This is a very small part of the job, maybe once a year. The alcohol would then be given to colleagues by my boss as a reward for completing a job. If I am interviewed for the job, should I inform the interview panel that as a Muslim I am not permitted to do this? Does the same apply to non halal food? For example purchasing non halal meat sandwiches for colleagues to eat? W/Salaam

Answer:

It is completely forbidden (Haraam) for any Muslim to do any job or
work related to alcohol even once in the whole life. Haraam is Haraam
always and there is no justification what so ever to do that. You must tell
the company that you are not allowed to do it and will never do it.
Other non Halal food ( except alcohol and pork) is allowed for those who
believe that it is allowed for them.

Salaam alaykum sayed Mohammad al-musawi. I am working in a warehouse where my duty includes offloading the deliveries from the lorry and keeping in the warehouse. The delivery includes household items, food items and alcohol. I don’t deal in selling of these items but i only offload and i am getting paid for offloading the deliveries.
