Question:

A.O.A, I have a question regarding Hazrat Ali a.s saying in Nahjul Balaghah, Khutbah 78, in which it is stated that: "Aey logon! aurtein emaan me naqas, hisson me naqas aur aqal me naqas hoti hn. Naqas-e-emaan ka sabut ye he k daur me namaz aur roza inhen chorna parhta he. Aur naqas-e-aqal hone ka sabut ye he k do aurton ki gawahi ek mard ki gawahi k barabar hoti he. Aur hisa-o-nasb me kami yun he k meeras me inka hissa mardon se aadha hota he. Buri auraton se daro aur achhi aurton se bhi chaukanna raho. Tum unki achhi baatein bhi naa mano takey agey barh kar wo buri baaton k manwane par na utar aein." I am really confused about the contents this saying contains. If we take a look at it, one shall obviously regard a woman's status as quite degraded. Please help me clear the doubts asap. JazakAllah.

Answer:

I have discussed this question with Ayatullah Shaikh Eshaq Fayyaz who was
in London for medical reasons, and he clearly said that such narrations are
not authentic. Islam says that the dignity of male and female is equal as
human beings.

Question:

Salaam alaikum, To celebrate my friend's engagement, a dinner has been organised between her close friends. We are all girls aged 22 and from different religions and cultures and none of us drink alcohol. My parents believe that I'm not allowed to go out for a dinner, even if it's only with girls, because I'm unmarried. I respect their decision as they are my parents but is this social interaction between girls after Maghrib forbidden in Islam? Thankyou very much.

Answer:

Your parents are the most who are concerned about your safety and dignity.
When they stop you from any thing, they just want your good. I advise you
to listen to your parents as far as they do not order you to commit a sin
or leave an obligatory act.

Question ID 1227 - 2014-03-18 02:38:49

Question:

As-salamu alaykum. My question is in regards to a person's name. My own name is Irish and is descended from an ancient Irish pagan god. Though its meaning is simply 'wisdom' I have not been able to find any reliable Shia sources on whether this would constitute a name change or not. From what I have learned only those with haram name meanings e.g slave of Baal constitute a change. Is my name acceptable for its meaning or do I need to change it? Thank you for you time.

Answer:

Changing name is not must in Islam as far as the name does not contain any
wrong meaning. Your name which means wisdom, does not need to be changed.
Heart and behaviour must be enlightened with light of Real Islam of the
Prophet (SAWA) and his Ahlul Bayt (AS).
